Position:                   Project Case Worker

Location:                  Galkacyo, Somalia with frequently travel to project locations

Reports to:               Project Officer

Project Summary:

The individual will support the implementation of 12 months emergence child protection and education integrated project that will be implemented in 31 schools for drought- and conflict affected Students and their surrounding communities in Bari (Bareeda, Habo, Bargal, Qandala, Ufyan,Alula and Iskushuban districts) and Mudug regions (Galkacyo district) of Puntland State of Somalia. The key responsibility for this position is promoting mitigation and response to protection concerns through strengthening protection mechanisms and referral pathways in target schools and neighbouring communities.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To spend 80% of time in field for different project activities in targeted schools & Communities under SHF.
  • Coordinate with the Project Officer, CP/CSG Coordinator and National Program Manager for effective implementation of the integrated child protection project activities as per the work plan and project objectives;
  • In coordination with relevant government agency, support in establishment/strengthening of multi-sectorial and coordinated referral mechanisms in the target communities, support mapping/ updating of service providers directory for the target areas and school specific referral map for target schools and support dissemination of this information to relevant stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain a close and functional professional relationships with key service providers in the target area to ensure holistic and timely response to cases that they are managing
  • With support of the Project Officer, Lead in mapping, establishment, training and support operationalization of Community Child Protection Committees(CPC) in target communities.
  • In collaboration with CPC members, school child protection focal points and school administration lead in identification, support and reunification of unaccompanied and Separated Children(UASC) and follow up thereafter
  • In coordination with CPC and school child protection focal points for identification of cases, the case worker shall assess, jointly/consultatively develop and implement case plan with caregivers and review/monitor and follow up to protection and UASC cases until they close the case successfully in line with Puntland Child Protection/GBV SOPs for supporting survivors.
  • In collaboration with school administration, school focal point and CPC support the linkages of schools to referral pathways in the target communities.
  • Provide individualised counselling and PSS support to survivors of violence and support Project Assistants and school protection focal points, to plan and deliver PSS/recreational activities targeting all learners in target schools.
  • With support of Education Manger and Project Officer Work with school administration and REOs to identify child protection focal point persons, conduct induction training for the school focal point and provide them support to carry out their responsibilities.
  • With support of Project Officer and Project Assistants, lead in training of CEC members and school head teachers on child protection training, dissemination of child protection rapid assessment, development and follow up of school child protection action plans.
  • Support Project Officer and Project Assistants in facilitating the school child protection focal point in consultations with CEC and school administration to establish and operationalize leadership networks in target schools.
  • Facilitate and deliver trainings to target schools and communities( children, caregiver/parents, teachers, Community Education Committees (CEC), CPC, community/religious leaders) on child rights and protection as well as Psychosocial Support.
  • Support Project Assistants and school focal point in planning and delivery of parenting sessions in target schools.
  • In liaison with SBCC coordinator, CSG/CP Coordinator and Project Officer support Project Assistants in facilitating community dialogues integrating key protection and safety messages in the dialogue.
  • Support school child protection focal points and Project Assistants in supporting protection messaging targeting all learners in schools.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Supervisor.

  • Understand and adhere to Relief International established policies and procedures for administration, finance, procurement, data management and beneficiary data protection, child protection, Code of Conduct (including Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Harassment) and security management;
  • Reinforcing and ensuring compliance to policies and procedures and support of Child protection Focal Point;
  • Be flexible and willing to support the team as is needed.

Other

Qualifications&Requirements:

  • Graduate Degree in social work/Social Sciences, education and or other relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated at least 2 years of experience in case management and working with community based child protection mechanisms
  • Experience in conducting individualized and group counselling/therapy sessions with learners is needed
  • Experience in delivering protection trainings and working/coordinating with various stakeholders
  • Good understanding of child protection concerns and mechanisms within Somalia is desired
  • Experience in strengthening protection mechanisms at community level is needed
  • Strong interpersonal & team building skills and excellence as a team player
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Ability to translate English into Somali and vice versa will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive and effective working relationships with stakeholders is key.
  • Advanced organizational skills including the ability to manage numerous tasks concurrently, use initiative, establish priorities and work to tight or competing deadlines.
  • In hand experience of using Microsoft office (MS word, MS excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Due to the sensitivity of some protection concerns that the case workers may be responding to only qualified and motivated female candidates should apply for the post.
