Vacancy Position.

Title:Information Technology Specialist Location:Mogadishu, (with regional travel within Somalia/ Somaliland) Duration:1 year (Renewable)

Background:

Growth, Enterprise, Employment & Livelihoods (GEEL) is 5-year USAID-funded project designed to promote and facilitate inclusive economic growth in Puntland, Somaliland and other existing and emerging federal states. The project is currently focusing on the agricultural sector (dairy, fisheries, sesame & banana) but is anticipated to expand in the future into other sectors of the economy. It will also seek to strengthen the business enabling environment through improving access to finance, policy and regulation, and business development services. Particular focus will be given to increase the participation of women and youth in the economy as entrepreneurs, employers, and employees.

Objectives:

The IT Specialist is responsible to manage and support IT systems, vendors, and staff for Somalia GEEL project office and its field offices across the country. The IT Specialist is required to possess significant technical expertise and excellent communication skills. Manages the use and maintenance of technology required for day to day operational support of GEEL Project staff and implementation, including first level of support Windows PCs and Windows Servers and maintain network infrastructure ISP, router, Ethernet switch and PBX phones, maintain spare parts and hardware repairs and restoration

IT Specialist General Responsibilities:

The IT Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Provide support in matters related to PC software and its peripherals (Win 7 Pro, Win 10 Pro, Microsoft Office 2013/ 2016, Office 365, McAfee Suite, Adobe products, etc.)
  • To ensure computer operating system (Windows PCs/Mac OSX) and other software are maintained and that patches are promptly applied on computers.
  • To ensure anti-virus software is installed and that both engine and signature files are kept up-to-date
  • To ensure information is backed up and maintained in accordance with RTI policies and procedures.
  • To provide user support on hardware-, networking- and software-related issues.
  • Configuring and troubleshooting laptops / desktops / printers/ scanners

Maintain the Windows 2008 Server

  • To ensure Windows Server and other software are maintained and that patches are promptly applied
  • To ensure information is backed up and maintained in accordance with RTI policies and procedures
  • To ensure backup drives are rotated weekly and logs are updated
  • To ensure that anti-virus engine and signature files are kept up to date.
  • To monitor the server on daily basis to ensure running smoothly
  • To troubleshoot any issues occurred on the server in coordination with the ITS Regional Team
  • Maintain network infrastructure including Internet connections, perimeter equipment, Network switches, Wireless access points, Printers, Cisco IP phones, etc.
  • Support staff access to RTI portals and e-mails through project laptops and other devices such as cell phones.
  • Support access to e-mails and RTI required apps on mobile phones used for work.
  • Set up, maintain, and support the IT infrastructure for additional project offices as they are established.
  • Assist with technical specifications, budget, and forecast the IT requirements for the offices and coordinate the procurement for the same.
  • Supervise the performance of any local firms or staff hired to support the IT services of project offices, including the internet service providers.
  • Follow up on warranty claims for IT equipment
  • Maintain proper inventory and adequate storage of IT equipment for the project offices including managing all check-out/in forms for staff that have RTI/USAID GEEL property.
  • Support project teams with IT support for the implementation of activities as appropriate. For example, provide assistance in developing IT specifications or reviewing online tools.
  • Support the upload of GIS information and MAGPI trouble shooting for the M&E team.
  • Train project staff on IT policy, services, platforms and other areas that enable staff to effectively access and use RTI IT resources.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the Senior Operations Manager or Chief of Party.

Reporting:

The IT Specialist will report to the Senior Operations Manager or his designee and will have matrix coordination with ITS Africa Regional Support Manager for RTI IT compliance.

Qualifications/Experience:

Qualification;

Education: Completion of a bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (or its equivalent) in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, information systems or other related fields

Work Experience:

  • At least 3- 4 years of experience in supporting wide range of IT infrastructure systems.
  • Experience in working on USAID or other donor funded programs or other International organization in a senior-level IT support capacity would be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting and troubleshooting a wide range of IT Infrastructure systems (Windows PCs, servers, printers, scanners, backup devices and networks or similar work environment in Somalia.

Skills/ Competencies:

  • Strong PC and Server support experience
  • Management Information Systems (MIS) Trainings Preferred
  • Those with User Training experience highly desired
  • Demonstrated experience in or basic knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012, Office 365, MS Office 2013/2016 for Windows and Mac, Win 7 Pro, Win 10 Pro, Mac OSX, McAfee ePO, McAfee HIPS, McAfee Client Proxy, McAfee DLP, McAfee VSE, Symantec/ Veritas Backup Exec 2012/ 2015 and Symantec/ Veritas DLO, Adobe Pro
  • Ability to troubleshoot common hardware, software and network issues
  • Ability to quickly gain new skills and knowledge when faced with new challenges
  • Aware of the ethical and professional standards of IT personnel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to travel between our Mogadishu, Hargeisa and Kenya offices.
