NRC Puntland Area Office is looking for WASH Assistant who will assist the project Officer and the coordinator in day to day implementation of the WASH Project.

Generic responsibilities:

Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines

Implement delegated WASH project portfolio according to plan of action

Prepare and develop status reports as required by management

Ensure proper filing of documents

Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist
-
Monitor and report on the Shelter/WASH project activities and ensure compliance with plans and NRC standards
-
Mobilize communities and community leaders for the distribution and registration of activities
-
Suggest new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities
-
Report all protection related concerns in the field
-
Carry out data collection as required
Specific responsibilities:
-
Promote safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services.
-
Help plan and carry out needs assessments, baseline studies and periodic studies, and feedback findings to the stakeholders.
-
Represent NRC in Garowe region – Liaise with community leaders and other sectors and agencies working locally in order to coordinate within the Shelter/WASH sector and between sectors such as Health and Shelter.

Provide field information with the Shelter/WASH PC to initiate development of project concept notes and proposal documents in respect to water, hygiene and sanitation.

Establish and oversee implementation of systems for efficiently controlling the quality of technical works; closely tracking works progress against payment and work plans, and controlling the WASH activities outputs as per donor and user community expectations.

Participate in the development of monitoring tools for the Water, sanitation and hygiene activities.

Update and maintain all departmental filing system including contracts, beneficiary lists, reports e.g. (Field visit, monthly and quarterly reports)

Prepare and follow up of procurements plans, beneficiary and projects database matrix, project tracking sheets and other required reports.

Facilitate appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities.

Conduct hygiene promotion activities in the IDP camps and schools under guidance of the WASH Officer/Shelter/WASH PC
-
Coordinate and mobilize community user groups, including formation of effective household based sanitation committees and water user management committees to within each of the two refugee camps.

Carry out informal and formal training sessions (according to identified needs) and evaluate the impacts of this training.

Raise the awareness on issues relevant to the community and encourage their participation in projects
-
Ensure mainstreaming of all cross-cutting issues in implementation of activities
-
Train the IDP community on settlement care, maintenance, and protection issues related to planning, Latrine construction and water infrastructure maintenance
-
Prepare field visit reports, weekly, and monthly or as required internally by NRC as well as relevant donors

Any other assignment as may be required by the field coordinator, Shelter /WASH PC

Ordinary National Degree in Water Engineering, electric engineering, Civil Engineering, Public health, Community development, Geology or any related discipline.

Experience from working with WASH projects in a humanitarian/recovery context

Ordinary National Diploma/degree in Public health, Community development, Geology or any related discipline.

Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

Knowledge about own skills/profile

Strong knowledge of English/Somali languages
Context related skills, knowledge and experience:

Knowledge of the context in Somalia

Knowledge of the local language, Somali

Strong communication skills, who can build trust and confidently, navigate both internally and externally at different levels.
What We Offer:
Contract period: 5 Months, with possibility of extension
Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions
Duty station: Garowe
Travel: frequent travel to project areas
